B3 not opening

Since I get updated to B3 I cannot make it work, I mean, the program starts and if I check the running programs it is there, but no UI appears.

Can you try the setup file from http://mishrareader.codeplex.com/downloads/get/433898 and see if that helps?

What OS are you running on?

JamieH1 wrote Jul 26, 2012 at 12:29 AM

I've got the same problem, I'm running Win8 Release Preview (x64).

JamieH1 wrote Jul 26, 2012 at 12:30 AM

Should also note I've tried both the one click installer and the setup file with the same results. Installs without error but when opening nothing happens but in Task Manager it shows as running.

My SO is W7 ultimate and before I installed Mishrareader I donwloaded the .Net Framework 4.5RC, is there any other requirements to run the app?

wifi wrote Jul 26, 2012 at 2:29 PM

Sorry, forgot to say that the SO it's a x64 version

wifi wrote Aug 7, 2012 at 4:12 PM

Since any of the installers for beta3 doesn't work for me, is there a way to download beta 2 again?

onovotny wrote Aug 8, 2012 at 10:07 PM

If you use the TaskManager to kill the mishrareader processs, then go to Start->Run (or WinKey + R) and enter %appdata%\MishraReader, in that folder and delete the misrhareader.settings file, does that help?

Also, in that folder, in the Logs subfolder, is there any error message in the log files?

I'm planning on the next release around the 16 or 17th built with the final .NET 4.5 and will add more logging code to track this down as I'm unable to repro it.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I'm sure we can find and fix this one once we find the issue.

This is all I got from the logs:

2012-07-27 17:32:36.8221|INFO|MishraReader.App|MishraReader Startup

Ok, until then I'll go through the webpage but it isn't as awesome as Mishra :P

PS. btw deleting the .settings doesn't change anything

Any way, thanks!

I am experiencing the same issue as the original poster. I tried installing via the alternative setup as advised in the last post.
http://mishrareader.codeplex.com/downloads/get/433898 .

This does not solve the problem for me.

I also note that the installers (both the one on your home page and the alternative one) provide no confirmation that the application gets installed, although the app does end up in my start menu.

I use Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Sorry for cross posting (I previously posted this comment in a discussion thread: http://mishrareader.codeplex.com/discussions/389443). However, I figure it is better to discuss this in the issue tracker than in the general discussion area.

Didn't realise this forum displays most recent comments first (confusingly, this is opposite order to the discussion forum).

What I refer to in my previous post as the "last post" is in fact the first reply (ovotny, Jul 22).

I have now read through the full thread. I have also tried the suggesting of killing the process and deleting the settings file. This does not help. I have no error message in my logs.

In fact, all I get is lines pertaining to startup, e.g.

2012-09-08 12:55:48.9590|INFO|MishraReader.App|MishraReader Startup
2012-09-08 12:58:23.6278|INFO|MishraReader.App|MishraReader Startup

Hope you can find and fix the problem soon.

I just posted a new update with additional logging in it. While I haven't identified the root cause yet, if you could please try the latest version and let me know if there's anything in the logs.

osm1 wrote Sep 8, 2012 at 11:22 PM

I downloaded and installed B4 (after uninstalling B3).
The issue is still present and there is no extra info in the log files.
This is what is in my log file

2012-09-09 00:20:08.9209|INFO|MishraReader.App|MishraReader Startup

Can you please try again with the following special download:

Extract that, then Double-click the run.bat. It'll generate a file called Mishra.iTrace. Please zip that up and let me know where I can download it from (dropbox/skydrive/etc) as the file will be big.

osm1 wrote Sep 9, 2012 at 4:57 PM

I have launched run.bat and it has created a 100mb mishra.itrace file which has not been modified for 30 minutes. However the cmd windows still says "waiting for process to exit"

When I try to copy mishra.itrace to my dropbox folder I get a file in use error

"the action can't be completed because the file is open in intellitraceSC.exe"

I don't know if killing intellitraceSC.exe via task manager will ruin the mishra.itrace file.
Please advise what to do.

onovotny wrote Sep 9, 2012 at 5:43 PM

Best to kill mishrareader.exe instead.

Also, after copying the first itrace file and removing ot from that dir, could you try again but kill it after a couple min?

osm1 wrote Sep 9, 2012 at 9:18 PM

I have uploaded the first itrace file after killing mishrareader.exe.
I have sent download link to you via email/private message.

Could please clarify what you mean by "could you try again but kill it after a couple min"

The itrace file is still increasing in size after a couple of minutes. Do you want me to kill mishrareader before itrace file has stopped increasing in size?

onovotny wrote Sep 9, 2012 at 9:38 PM

Yes, please kill mishrareader after a couple min. The file stops growing after a bit, but then it drops earlier info.

osm1 wrote Sep 9, 2012 at 10:29 PM

Link to new Itrace file has been sent to you by direct message.

robster2001 wrote Sep 9, 2012 at 11:14 PM

I developed the problem after updating to Beta 4 and .NET 4.5 final. I tried to save a settings change in the Reader, which caused a fatal error (from the log file)...

2012-09-09 16:59:40.9224|FATAL|MishraReader.App|Unhandled Dispatcher Exception
2012-09-09 16:59:40.9804|FATAL|MishraReader.App|Unhandled AppDomain Exception

After that, I couldn't get the UI window to come up until I renamed %appdata%\MishraReader to %appdata%\MishraReader.old and let the app create a new settings folder.

I did try to run the trace version, but I may not have let it run long enough. I have my old settings folder if you want it.

Okay folks, I think I finally found the root cause and have checked in a fix. There's one more major bug that needs to be fixed and then I'll push out another release.

Thank you for your patience!
